| Statement of accusation - Judge Atri wrote:
- The defendant has been proved guilty of fraud.
R4zi3l, this court takes a very dim view indeed of market speculators, and I must impress upon you the gravity of this crime. You have, however, professed contrition; and this court is willing to accept your sincerity, as justice demands that the law give a citizen the benefit of the doubt.
Accordingly, it is the opinion of this court that justice is best served by a fine of only one [1] pound to the King; and a further fine by way of restitution to the town of Chard. You are hereby ordered to sell to the Town Hall of Chard [or the Mayor’s designated representative] 24 loaves of bread at a price of 6,20 pounds each. You are to contact the Mayor forthwith and make arrangements to complete this transaction within seven [7] days, and provide such proof as she may require to Mayor Aeryn_Sun that such has been done.
This court will not require a public apology at this time, as no further good is deemed to be gained from humiliating a citizen who has vowed to make right his ill deed and to engage in no futher crimes of this kind. BUT as you are an experienced citizen and tradesmen, you are reminded that this court will not look favorably at all upon a repeat offense of this nature, nor with failure to comply with the sentence set forth herein. The defendant has been sentenced to 1 pound fine. Bill of indictment - PP Rebo wrote:
R4zi31, you have been charged with Speculation and Manipulation of the Town Market of Chard on August 12, 1455.
R4zi3l has violated Article 2.3.2 and 2.3.3. in the Legal Corpus of Somerset, which state:
Art. 2.3.2. : Speculation is defined as any action a citizen takes that consists of buying one or more goods and reselling it again at a higher price on the same market. This is a light crime and the sentence is set in Article 2.1.3.
Article 2.3.3. : Economy manipulation is defined as: - hoarding goods; where an individual or organization attempts to temporarily control all available supplies of a given good in order to artificially increase the price.
Evidence to the crime can be found here http://forum.renaissancekingdoms.com/viewtopic.php?t=23196&start=90 Or here: https://i.servimg.com/u/f22/11/16/21/34/sales10.jpg https://i.servimg.com/u/f22/11/16/21/34/purcha10.jpg https://i.servimg.com/u/f22/11/16/21/34/market10.jpg
It is written in the Legal Corpus of Somerset in Article. 2.1.5. : Confession of a crime can lower the degree of the sentence.
The Defendant can choose to confess his crime, defend himself, or seek legal assistance if he so wishes
You have the right to legal representation. If you wish a lawyer, I recommend contacting the Law Society of England.
It is written in the Legal Corpus of Somerset in Article 2.1.2. that a moderate crime can carry up to the following sentence:
Art. 2.1.2. : The various sentences of Somerset Duchy are : ii. Fine iii. Jail time; for a light sentence, jail time is less than or equal to 3 days. First defence pleading - R4zi3l wrote:
- i declare myself guilty of that crime sorry... i will stop selling that good
Prosecutor indictment - PP Rebo wrote:
- Your Honor,
R4zi3l is a very experienced player who has reached level three, he should know the law well. He is guilty of market speculation and manipulation. He purchased over 20 bread loaves, when he himself is a baker. The large quantity of bread purchased proves his violation goes beyond speculation; he was clearly manipulating the price of bread upwards to benefit his own purse.
This being said, as R4zi3l has confessed his crime and has stated that he will stop reselling the bread, he is deserving of a lighter sentence than I was originally going to propose. Under the Legal Corpus of Somerset a confession can lower the degree of the sentence. “Article. 2.1.5. : Confession of a crime can lower the degree of the sentence.” R4zi3l has admitted his guilt and must be sentenced to make a public apology to all of Chard and compensate Chard’s Town Hall for its losses and inconvenience. Last defence pleading - R4zi3l wrote:
- i have nothing to say... is fair
