Having found posts by two of Somerset's citizens commenting that there wasn't a good way to discuss county business, we have created this new forum so that all may have their say. We hope that you, the people of Somerset, find this of use!

Anyone caught throwing eggs or paint at the councillors will be given one sheriff point for each hit.
Enough hits and you either get thrown out or made deputy sheriff.

Seriously, about the defamation legislation:

Would it be possible to add a waiting period from the time the request for lawsuit is filed before being brought to trial?

This would allow for a "cooling off" period since this type of case is often started in the heat of anger and indignation at what are considered unfair accusations?

Perhaps some sort of moratorium on public discussion between the accused and accuser during this time would prevent the situation from escalating into "taking sides" or becoming a political stand-off.

Thank you for providing a way for citizens to have input into council issues.

hmm interesting idea suan. So a time for both parties to talk it out... but wouldnt you think that if they were arguing already then talking might not be of their best interest? How about a third party to mediate. I think maybe a new role created to serve as a Judge's assistant in mediating these disputes might be something to think about. Preferably this person will have legal authority do stop the two parties from going overboard... hmm... interesting... no?
