Dear Lords and Ladies

As a concerned citizen of Gloucester and of course Somerset, I laud you for your
involvement in attempting the unenviable task of making Somerset more active.

The C A S is an impressive conglomeration of tireless and dedicated people who have the welfare of Somerset at heart.

However, to my mind, maybe we shud find the areas of INACTIVITY in Somerset
and have each of you from different towns report here so as to see if we have common
areas where we may focus our energies.

My main concern in Gloucester is the lack of participation of the majority of the towns people in the forums and taverns. Also the low enrollment in Gloucester into the SAS.
I have checked the SAS enrollment center(thread) at the Somerset Inn and it seems that for every 20 people from Bath and Chard...and every 5-10 people from Bristol and Bridgewater we have 1 joining from Gloucester.

Besides our mayor Budicca and Lady Allikath there are maybe at least a dozen other people that participate (not counting those that want specifics for their own consumption or need) in the day to day activities of Gloucester. Maybe Gloucester has become strictly
an e-mail town where most of the work is done behind the scenes and only by those in favor...who knows (I am only theorizing).

But in any case...I am certain that if we find the areas of INACTIVITY...we shall find ACTIVE solutions ...or at least proposals....!!!

Good luck to you all....I am proud to be from Somerset and feel honored to know
that I have such distinguished people looking out for our welfare...!!!

Silvermane

P S I wud love to have this seeming state of apathy and self-centeredness of the Gloucesterians change into a more vibrant community type life...but am at a loss, at present as to how to go about it....it seems we manage all our resources reasonably well
except for ONE....the most important...(to my mind)!!!!...OUR HUMAN RESOURCES!!!

Dearest friend,

I agree with you completely. We have some great avenues that need work. Personally I've come to view the key to success in our kingdom is effective communication. Unfortunately the majority of our communicative devices are static and more often times than not create confusion, misunderstandings, and some times even heated arguments. The only method we have available for dynamic communication is our town taverns.

I've often times wondered how GC stays afloat with rumours of taverns being extremely idle or completly empty. It is possible, as you said most likely with an intricate network of communication amongst you residents. This works for survival, but I agree that it does not promote growth. I must locate a series on Tavern time that I wrote during my second extended absence and see how complete it is. It should answer all your questions on how to get your towns tavern going.

Till then, I urge you to focus your efforts in 3 major areas that I know need some assistance. The SAS is making a comeback which I see you have already started to dig into. Perhaps the Lieutenants of Chard and Bridgewater can grant you access to our town forums so that you may have an idea of how to get GC's SAS going. I have requested this already on your behalf here: https://somerset.rpg-board.net/sas-recruitement-office-f34/you-want-to-join-sas-t99-570.htm#21862 Also we have the Somerset Parliament, Voice of Somerset which I am spearheading currently. All you have to do is request access to the usergroup and you're in. Link here: http://forum.renaissancekingdoms.com/groupcp.php The great thing about VoS is that all players, even level 0 players, may participate, If you have any problems email me. Lastly is the Somerset Trade Guild which the Bathian Redskin_core seems to be revamping. I'm least informed on this new endeavour, but the link is here:
https://somerset.rpg-board.net/somerset-trade-guild-f123/

Hopefully these words of advise will assist you in your endeavour. I'll try and dig up my tavern time posts to assist you also. I'll post them in Somerset Inn for all to utilize. With a lot of patience, a little resolve, a dash of endurance, a sprinkle of humour and a tad of perserverance we might just be able to bake one tasty pie of success.

DILL OUT

Some very valid points and I feel dyl answered them with his usual charm, Furthermore it is imperative to note that Somerset however loath I am to admit has always been one of the most conservative and sleepy counties, yet when the horns of war ring as they did after the Chester Insurgency, Somerset unites as a whole and becomes an exemplary county...
I feel that will become the charm of Somerset to you you will slowly relax into Somerset's renown relaxing atmosphere (except for election time), Talking of her former grace Allikath and Viscountess Budicca, They are exceptional people who are from my political party and have pioneered what you see in the town of Gloucester today...Gloucestor though a very dead town has produced exceptional leaders who have always endeavored for reform, and you lord Silvermane look as the likes of a person who will join them...While I admire your interest in reform in the town, I would advise you to stay updated on all happenings in Somerset Inn, where most of the exciting stuff actually takes place...You may also wish to involve yourself in the social life of the town of Gloucester...depending on what you want and what you have expertise at, choose a career path such as perhaps you wish to be a defence attorney (somerset needs them the Prince Regent and myself are the only aproved attorneys' surviving....you may want to make the SAS your career and train yourself to advance through the many ranks...you may want to dabble in politics...or you may want to be an actor through the theatre company (MSNT)...you may want to become an academic...perhaps you wish to join the embassy staff and train to become an ambassador..OR maybe you want to be all of them and more...talk to the experianced people, and develop your own opinions and then hone your skills in that area...

And for those who havn't noticed I'm back from hols Cool
