Sentence given on the 4th of April 1455
Judge - Jellysnail

Bill of indictment

Quote :
Davyjones purchased 30 fish from the town hall market in the town of Gloucester for 18.10(screen shots obtained) and then resold said fish on the players market in the town of Gloucester for 18.95 each(screen shots taken) This fish was intended to be purchased by a Trader named Morganna from Warwick

First defence pleading

Quote :
why cant i sell them but a trader from elsewhere can? why is it ok for the people who run the town to set the prices so my veggies have to be sold cheap to them and they can sell them off to their mates at a cheap price
i dont understand whats happening here

Prosecutor indictment

Quote :
Your Honor;

On March 26, 1455 I posted 45 fish at 18.10 on the town hall market of Gloucester. This was posted for a trader named Morganna, for the town of Warwick in exchange for, much needed wood, for the town of Gloucester. Also Posted on the town hall market was fish at the normal town hall price of 18.21 Davejones purchased 30 fish at 18.10 pounds from the town hall market in Gloucester and reposted them for 18.95 on Gloucester's player's market. The screen shots I have provided support this accusation and the defendants own testimony supports this as well. I asked the Player to repost the fish but by the time he had answered a day later I already had Glouceter's town agent, Allikath, purchase the fish so we could finish our trade with Warwick; they need the fish.

This action of Davejones is clearly a violation of Art. 2.3.2. : "Speculation is defined as any action a citizen takes that consists of buying one or more goods and reselling it again at a higher price on the same market. This is a light crime and the sentence is set in Article 2.1.3."

I ask that he be found guilty as the evidence and the defendants own testimony demonstrate his guilt. I also ask that Gloucester be compensated, by the defendant, for the 25.50 pounds that the Town Hall lost rebuying the fish in order to keep our bargain with Warwick. Thanks Budicca, Mayor of Gloucester

Last defence pleading

Quote :
its taken me ages to try and get the money to level up. having to sell veggies well below the normal price because the town hall has set it like this is unfair and nothing we can do about it. if i lose too much money on this there is a good chance i will not return to this game

The prosecutor called Allikath
Her statement:

Quote :
Greetings to the court.
On March 26 mayor Budicca and I were in conversation about buying for the TH grant when she informed me she was in the process of doing a trade with Morganna of Warwick, trading fish for wood that was needed for the citizens of Gloucester to work their trades.
She then told me that the fish she had put on the town market at 18.10 for the trade had been bought by Davejones.
She immediately PMed him in game informing him that the fish were meant for a Town Hall trade with Morganna and asked him to return the fish to the market so the original trade could be completed.
She received no reply.
She watched the market and when a large amount of fish appeared on the market at 18.95 she suspected it was the fish from the trade.
She notified me and as TH trading agent I bought 2 of the fish at 18.95 with the TH grant.
The seller was Davejones.
After waiting a while and not hearing anything from him and the fish still being on the market I used the TH grant to buy all the fish at 18.95 so the trade could be completed for the much needed wood for the town.
All the fish bought at 18.95 were sold by Davejones.
I present the screenshot of the purchase.

This screenshot and another one of the Davejones purchase of the fish have been included in the report filed in the Somerset inn Prosecutor's office as a matter of public record.

As this is a blatent and clear cut case of speculation and profiteering I think the maximum sentence should be imposed in addition to restitution to the TH of the monies spend to buy back the fish at the higher price to complete the deal
29 fish. Sold at 18.10
Bought back at 18.95.
I thank the court for it's indulgence.I am available to provide any addition information or testimony.
Allikath
Earl of Dean.
Sheriff of Somerset.
Proud member of the Somerset council.

The prosecutor called Morganna
Her statement:

Quote :
I was sent by Royal Commission to parley goods from Warwick for Fish. During the transaction with the Mayor of Gloucester, the wood sold to town fine, however the fish did not arrive. Seems Davy Jones having a higher charisma than I (76) sweetalked the town stocksperson into allowing him to intercept the sale.
Mr Jones is an experienced and well travelled Carpenter, he well knows the laws and well understands what he has done. He also knows that to conduct such a trade Warwick sells wood very cheaply in return for the cheap fish, these deals are to help both towns afford their costs by supporting trade. This sort of profiteering as Mr. Jones knows this to be, is harmful to all levels of society from the poor that are hurt when townships loose money to support them, to the gentry whom consume the fish.
He offered nothing to either township yet sought to profiteer by 32 pounds off of harvests not his own. By interferring with a brokered exchange, he attempted to steal 32 pounds for doing nothing, but breaking the law.
Speaking for fair and honest traders; of whom I keep company with many, being an experienced wanderer of our Kingdom, I urge the court for a stiff penalty to send warning to these profiteers whom so plauge our kingdom.
Unlike Mr. Jones I do such boons for these towns and people for free, expecting no reward other than to see our towns and counties fight crime and keep our roads safe.

Morganna

Statement of accusation

Quote :
The following verdict has been taken from the statements and evidence that was given to me.

Davejones, on the 4th of April 1455, I find you guilty violating Article. 2.3.2. in the Legal Corpus of Somerset.

Davejones, you are a well respected citizen of your town, achieving the high standard of been able to own your own profession (OOC: Level two). No leniency will be showed because you should know the law.

Buddica, I see that he bought from the Town Hall 29 fish from the evidence given to me by Allikath, but in the evidence you show me, it only shows you buying back 20 fish. Therefore I cannot punish him for the other nine fish.

Davejones, I would advise you to speak to your mayor on these questions of yours, but under the circumstance, you can mail me the questions.

This is where it gets more serious and I am shocked to see it happen. It was unwise of you Davesjones, to insult another person, especially a guest from another county. Evidence to this can be found here –

Once again I will fine you for this.

Now for the profit you would have made, which is 18 pounds for the 20 fish, I will fine you 18 pounds for this.

For committing the crime of speculation, I fine you 150 pounds.

For insulting another person you will be fined 50 pounds and an apology sent to Morganna I will ask Morganna to tell me when you have sent the apology, if you don't I will sentence you again, where is your chivalry?

If you wish to appeal this case, please approach the Court of Appeals at the following address : http://forum.renaissancekingdoms.com/viewforum.php?f=98

Senteced to a 218 pound fine.
