Bill of indictment

Quote :
Your Honor, under the judicial treaty we share with Wiltshire, I am prosecuting this case. The suspect has fled Wiltshire to our fair duchy of Somerset to try and flee justice. However, I shall ensure this is not so by charging him here today.

Here is what happened in the PP thread of Wiltshire:

Since this criminal knew what they were doing and knowingly fled to another duchy to try and escape punishment, I ask for a VERY harsh sentence.

The defendant didn't present to the Court.

Prosecutor indictment

Quote :
Well your honor, as you can see, the defendent did not even present a defence pleading, yet he accessed the court case because for SOME unknown reason he called me as a witness to his defense. Your honor, it iy my belief he is trying to make a mockery of this court room and our court system. Please go through with my origional suggestion of a very harsh sentence, we have enough trouble in Somerset on our own, we do not need more criminals fleeing here.

Last defence pleading

Quote :
Your honor. I am but a simple man. A corn farmer from Dorchester I have, and continue, to be. I am not traitorous, indeed I love the crown and His Majesty's officials. However, if would indulge me, I will tell you the tale of how I came to about in this current situation. I was trading my corn between Chard, Dorchester, and Southampton. When the local officials heard this they asked me to quit selling my corn in other cities as there were animals and paupers in Dorchester that relied on that corn. However, I believed, and still believe, mind you, that I have the right to sell my corn in any city I wish. Nevertheless, my choice to continue was followed by harsh words and eventually threats began to come in. Men, nay hounds, were stalking me. Lies were spread that I had robbed some woman. People on the road eyed me and spat on my feet. The powers that reigned in Dorchester ran me out of the county and into the West. I fear I am still hounded, which is why I've had to stay on the move. By the time I made it back here to Somerset, I saw that the lies had been spread here, as well. Unfortunately, it was too late for me to make a comment. So I looked for a Rock of Justice - someone that might know and tell the truth. I called Krelian, whom everyone knows to be an honest and decent-enough man. It was only after he spoke that court law permitted me to speak. And so here I am before you, Your Honor. Alone, weary, perhaps even paranoid. I ask you, Sir, how can we hope to have a Grand Civilisation when men, elected men, are slanderous and greedy. I know you are not one of those men, Your Honor; but by letting me go, you would be showing those men that you will not stand for such blatent abuses of their power.

The defence called Krelian

Quote :

Statement of accusation

Quote :
The court finds the evidence of the crime of attempted robbery by the defendant Marcusconstantine to be clear and overwhelming. The court therefore finds the defendant Marcusconstantine Guilty on this charge. The court further finds that his protestations about his unlawful flight from justice to lack substance. Ergo this court finds this to be an aggravating factor in the above crime and according to the laws set forth in the Somerset Legal corpus, Attempted robbery would normally carry the penalty of a fine but as the circumstances of this crime were aggravated further by the defendants unlawful flight to avoid prosecution I hereby sentence according the law for a moderate crime and he will be incarcerated 2 days time for this action. Marcusconstantine this court does not wish to see you here again.
