| Thanx Rebo and hello to you Ero. I think should be fine with Corothius taking the spokesman job this would ease Rebo off a bit as well I don't see any problems although a slight thing... I haven't really seen him posting really that much but if he'll do a good job even without posting I guess thats fine. So would be a go for me if I were to vote.
Just a thought, Thorpe | |

| Hello all, Sorry I've been silent these past few days. A terrible storm came thourgh here several days ago and totally fried my interent connection. It took the ISP nearly a wekk to get me back online. Just got back today to find the furoms here and in somerset and in chard have gone absolutely nuts. It will take me a couple of days to get caught up with what's going on. Look for me to start shooting my mouth off again in a day or two. yours, Atri | |

| Indeed it is great to see all of you again, and I support Corothius on all of his endeavors indeed, for if he tackles the mayor challenge as he has tackled the Bowman challenge, he will make a grand mayor indeed. Also Sela will be in retreat for a few days (3or4) due to PC troubles, she does send her best to all of you though, and if need be I can't relay any message to her for ya. | |

Yes, welcome to all the new faces here! Barerose sir, thank you and please say hello to your lovely bride for me. Mike sir, I am absolutely buried with IRL work right now, and probably will be for the next couple of weeks. I AM checking in and trying to stay caught up on the issues, but won't be able to respond in any meaningful way very often. I hope to be caught up eventually. Quick question: There is much talk and complaint in London about the adverse effect of the new colonies on town economies. How many has Chard lost, and do we know if it is going to have a significant impact on our goods and prices? To the extent that there is an impact, what, if anything, do we need to do to counteract or minimize the effect? Your busy, but still here, intern Atri

| honestly I don't think we lost many to the English colonies, we lost way more to opening new countries denmark/italy etc. etc. as all the people of their natural countries tended to leave. |

| Mike sir, Don't know if youve seen this yet, it's in the "public council" thread: Vana wrote: - Quote :
- I would like to discuss with the various mayors of Somerset, some ideas I have about the creation of Deputy Sheriffs in each town. These would be people to whom I would allocate grants for the purposes of buying cheap fodder from the town markets for use in breeding animals for trhe county. Sometimes when we run low on or out of fodder such grants need to be issued and cancelled quickly. Having deputies would help a lot with this, as I can't see the status of each town market and they could report to me.
I have had to issue such grants already as the county was out of fodder on my first day on the job, but I feel that a pre-arranged system would be better than just reacting like that, and I would like to give the mayors some say in the matter. The idea isn't to have county deputy sheriffs buy up all of a town's cheap stocks of wheat and corn, even though this could be to the town and county's advantage since the county could sell it back to the mayors afterwards, because I would respect any mayor's wishes not to have county agents interfering in their market places if this was seen as undesirable for any reason. I just feel it would be advantageous to all of us to consider this idea though. The deputies could help the mayors as well as the Sheriff. And giving some people Deputy Sheriff titles would encourage their participation and interest in our affairs. Deputy Mayors could perhaps work in tandem with Deputy Sheriffs too.
I feel therefore that the Trade Minister and I should be allowed access to the Mayor's forum on this site for such discussions (or another forum for meetings of Mayors and Councillors should be setup). The County and the Mayors could work together much more effectively if we could discuss such matters together. I don't mind using the Somerset Inn for this either, but I am aware that some mayors may wish our discussions to be private and I would respect that. Personally, I don't see the need for a separate deputy sherriff in each town. It only adds another layer to the process, and complicates things. Why not deal directly with each mayor, since the mayor is more likely to know what is best for their particular market? As for allowing access for county officials, I have no problem with them having access to the Mayor's Office; BUT I definately don't want anyone from the county in our town council forum. County officials have a history of butting in, and sometimes usurping our ideas and interfering in our affairs. Nothing against Vana in particular, but once the door is opened and the precedent is set, then who knows who else ends up spying on our doings and debates. Atri

| yup, already read vana's post, and already decided that I would oppose it to my death if they tried to enforce something like that. Chard is doing just fine without having more representatives of the county council working here, I export corn/wheat as we have surpluses, I won't have someone buying up wheat/corn just because someone wants it, this is even why I want that merchant law, so merchants can't buy our wheat during shortages, Chard citizens come first, not county officials. |

| Proposal: If merchant law is enacted. To create yet another new council position, a so called "Town Trade Minister" in charge of keeping track of incoming merchants. The mayor would give the Town Trade Minister updated regulations on what the town needs for buying/selling purposes and what goods are off limits. Then the Town Trade Minister would be in charge of accepting/replying to mails from incoming merchants. And likely checking the town list for incoming merchants to inform them of our law. (So the person with this position should be familiar with the town list to easily pick out new high rp names ) The Police Chief would still be in charge of dealing with infringements, so I'd expect the two positions to work together closely. Also the Town Trade Minister would want to work with the Head Merchant who is in charge of out-of-town deals (making sense?) to ensure Chard has the optimum supply of goods. The reason I wouldn't want the head merchant to do both jobs is they are likely to be out of town, and busy enough with there own trades. |

To create yet another new council position, a so called "Town Trade Minister" in charge of keeping track of incoming merchants. Well that's one job I would NEVER want. [shudders] But I would suggest calling it "Commerce Minister" or something, to avoid confusion with county Trade Minister title. Atri

| I can't agree more with both of you. The last thing we would need is county people in our council. This would basically mean everything we talk about might be sent of to the county council. And also the county getting Chard's wheat when we are already short on it. The new position I think it's great but how do we decide who gets it? Or will that be set after the coming elections? Thorpe The town councilors are appointed by the mayor and serve as an advisory board at his will and pleasure. So he would simply select whomever he felt could best do the job. They dont really cast any binding votes, and are not elected. They serve to help the mayor with certain tasks and to provide feeedback and ideas, which you sir are very good at. Keep at it, Thorpe sir. I meant it when I said you'd make a fine mayor in the future. Atri | |
