| I would like to discuss with the various mayors of Somerset, some ideas I have about the creation of Deputy Sheriffs in each town. These would be people to whom I would allocate grants for the purposes of buying cheap fodder from the town markets for use in breeding animals for trhe county. Sometimes when we run low on or out of fodder such grants need to be issued and cancelled quickly. Having deputies would help a lot with this, as I can't see the status of each town market and they could report to me. I have had to issue such grants already as the county was out of fodder on my first day on the job, but I feel that a pre-arranged system would be better than just reacting like that, and I would like to give the mayors some say in the matter. The idea isn't to have county deputy sheriffs buy up all of a town's cheap stocks of wheat and corn, even though this could be to the town and county's advantage since the county could sell it back to the mayors afterwards, because I would respect any mayor's wishes not to have county agents interfering in their market places if this was seen as undesirable for any reason. I just feel it would be advantageous to all of us to consider this idea though. The deputies could help the mayors as well as the Sheriff. And giving some people Deputy Sheriff titles would encourage their participation and interest in our affairs. Deputy Mayors could perhaps work in tandem with Deputy Sheriffs too.
I feel therefore that the Trade Minister and I should be allowed access to the Mayor's forum on this site for such discussions (or another forum for meetings of Mayors and Councillors should be setup). The County and the Mayors could work together much more effectively if we could discuss such matters together. I don't mind using the Somerset Inn for this either, but I am aware that some mayors may wish our discussions to be private and I would respect that.

| I do this on an unofficial basis in Bridgewater, carefully choosing the quantities and prices purchased to avoid hurting the local economy there, rarely buying the cheapest goods, and never buying all of a given item. Then, a couple of times a week, the mayor and I transfer the goods from the town grant that I purchase with to the county inventory.
As for the other towns, I request that the mayors simply purchase superfluous stocks of corn, etc., and put them on sale at the county fair. That's usually 10 or 15 minutes of their time, 2 or 3 times a week.
The benefit to your idea is that more people would become involved in the governance of Somerset, giving us a larger base of trained people to run for mayor or council; at the same time, that is also its downside, for additional time would be required in training those people, monitoring their activities, and ensuring that their mayors wouldn't feel slighted at the implied suggestion that they've either not the time or the interest to perform this essential duty.

| your idea is the same thing has county agent that get drop because not much activity, and lack of people doing it. Is like having police office in each town, clerck of county loand ambassador.
Many idea are good the trouble is the lack of people wanted to do, but market if you look into the RK forum you see the trade guild of somerset there is suppose to be post each day market of each town ... and trade request of each town ...

| Thanks for the above two responses, which I see as positive. It may be true that there aren't enough people interested to do this, but maybe a new attempt at encouraging people wouldn't go amiss either. And I fully accept Chardonnay's point about possibly upsetting any mayors, which is why I started by saying I'd like to discuss it with them. I would have posted this in the Mayors forum rather than here but I don't have access there. Please could the admin of this forum grant me access, or provide another area for mayors to meet councillors (or at least Chardonnay and myself) privately? I don't think a discussion of this nature would be so effective by PM. | |

| Perhaps send them each a PM suggesting that they check in at this thread? I don't know how often the mayors use their chambers here, but a fast scan for last post dates isn't encouraging. | |
