Wonderful sir! Glad to see you here. As fate would have it, you are here at a good time.
Please go read the last page of the "top secret workings..." thread. It's the festival we've been planning for three generations and I could use your help bringing it to fruition.
I need another couple of volunteers to be judges for the art comp and poetry comp. Go sigh up to help out with one or the other, please.
Thanks sir. and welcome to the council.
Atri Minister of Morale or role play or something like that i have already read these and i think i would be of use in both if it is allowable.

| Well it is no secret now, but I am resigning all of my positions so to leave for the colonies of Scotland. I do wish to nominate Aeryn_Sun as my successor, she has shown that she has what it takes to keep all of what I have come to Love safe in my absence. Good luck to you all, for I will miss you all dearly indeed. Mike, you are like a brother to me, and it is your wisdom that I will take as my most valued possession. Rebo, your kindness and unwavering charity are a lesson for all. I hope to meet more like you there. Atri & Marshy, you are more full of life then the words you so easily release. Even in my darkest hours, I knew that all I had to do was log into Chard and hear you twos kind, and loving banter, and all would be well. Thorpe & shanehall16, to see you becoming what you are is a real treasure and one that is truly rewarding Aeryn_Sun, you have been my protege for sure, for I see that you hold the same values and honors that I have and hold so dear. I hope I didn't leave any of you out, for this is a very hard thing for me to do. I will miss you all so deeply, but will take a bit of all of you with me. Fare-well my truest of friends................... | |

| My heart weeps with the knowledge that some of my new friends have decided to move away. (Aeryn tries to hide the tear forming in the corner of her eye.) I do understand you wanting to return to your home though. (Thinking of Moya & her friends still aboard her, somewhere out there in the vastness of space.) Thank you BareRose for your confidence in me & your trust. I thank you both (BareRose & Sela) for your friendship.
I shall miss you both greatly.

| Hey guys, It's me again. I was just talking to Mike in the tavern and I was wondering if we should make the minimum wage 16p instead of 15p the current wage. Really no one uses 15p anymore especially since mine wages have gone up. So what do you folks think? Waiting for comments, ideas... Thorpe | |

Waiting for comments, ideas... Thorpe Well sir, I wouldnt oppose such a decree; but I am not sure how necessary it is. You said yourself that "no one uses 15P anymore." so if no one uses it, what purpose does the law serve? Atri - still a free marketer at heart

| (Thorpe: Generally we create a new thread for a new discussion, so if you wanted to talk about something completely new you'd have somewhere unique to talk about it so things don't get mixed up)
I would vote no for the following reasons: -the 15P minimum wage is county mandated, not town, therefore they deal with people breaking the law, if we create a 16P minimum it becomes a town issue and then we have to deal with the lawsuit, consuming law state points and a lot of time setting up cases/screenshots.
-since there are so few people hiring at 15 this law would serve almost no purpose. I'd much rather have people *want* to hire fairly then force them to do it
-the people who usually break these laws are new people that haven't read any of the legal books, so punishing them doesn't help anything, if we see a wage problem, we mail, explain the situation, and if someone took the job, the transfer a few pounds compensation, no legal records needed

| Sorry wasn't aware of that I just assumed I can post in here given we talk about all sorts of things. Anyway as a side question would you be able to provide me with some figures about Chard? Especially with the figures that tells us Chard's consumption of wood per day as well as the cost of repairing axes per day or per week if it's easier. I have an idea so I just want to see if it's possible. Also the price that we would be able to import wood at would be good. Thank you, Thorpe | |

| Thorpe, Since I am still awake (for some unknown reason), I will offer you an answer. If Mike want to further clarify these things he should. - MikeBlack wrote:
- Oh and something I worked out for people if they're interested:
- Quote :
An axe have a life length of 50 uses approximately Around every 20 uses, you need to bring it to the blacksmith for sharpening
From Here
Sharp Axe : 176 pound purchas price 50 wood bushels * 3.8 (recently asked for) = 190 pounds 2 resharpens = -50 pounds
Total net gain = -36 pounds
So thats -36 pounds per axe per 50 days
With 12 axes leant per day give or take one, thats nearly 10 pounds per day lost just to keep our resource going Because of this, we try to get our Blacksmiths to make axes for cheaper and our merchants new minimum price to sell wood is 3.9. Also, we do not import wood, since we are a wood town. We export at the highest rate we can (at least 3.9 pounds). In addition, if a foreign merchant were to sell wood on our market they would be in violation of Somerset's Fraud laws. Hope this helps, mate! -Rebo

| Thanks Rebo. Well I had a bit of an extreme idea (may seem to some) to actually stop lending axes and with the gain we get from not having to repair/sharpen them anymore would get a gain if we were to import wood.... But I can't really do the maths right now but thanks for the figures and I'll get around this or if someone can help would be great. Thanks, Thorpe | |

| (ooc. No need to do the math, sir. The game mechanics require all wood towns to loan out axes; you cannot just buy an ax and use it in the forest as a citizen. This is a silly rule if you ask me, but that is how the game is coded. Don't be discouraged, keep on thinking outside the box, though!) | |

Thorpe dont think of the money spent on axes as a "loss" sir. Think of it as an investment in the prosperity of the citizens, becaue while ax maintenance may take money from TH it ADDS money to the pockets of those who cut wood, and therfore to the economy. The way to avoid that "loss" is to offset the expense with other sources of income. for example, TH sometimes sells wood to the county for [i believe] 3.90P. Limiting the number of axes available, which is where I think you are going with this, wont actually improve the overall economic health of Chard, even if it did reduce TH expenses. Atri not really very good at economic things

| Aye, I guess it depends how you look at things. Although it wouldn't really be good for Chard either if TH was going to go broke. But anyways my solution doesn't work so it doesn't matter. Thanks anyway guys, Thorpe | |

Thanks anyway guys, Thorpe Well sir, I agree with Rebo that you are to be commended for thinking outside the box. I have said many times that I fully expect MOST of my ideas to not be good ones, but I still toss them out there for peer review and constructive crticism. Good job on your part sir. And I dont think the state of our treasury is all that dire. The last couple of reports Mike filed have actually shown a modest increase in our town's net worth. It's just means that a mayor has to really be dilligent and on top of things to keep the balance in the black. Atri who wishes SHE understood how to effectively manage a town
