PostSubject: I Somerset Fun Fair   I Somerset Fun Fair Icon_minitimeThu Nov 13, 2008 10:32 am

Hello!

I bring to you what I have so far about my project. For starters, I've been calling it "I Somerset Fun Fair" but, of course, that can be changed.

At the moment, I have 5 different chanllenges - horse racing, jousting, pike throwing, sword duel and bow and arrow target shooting.
Other than those challenges some other things came up: a kissing booth, a grease pole, the pooing cow game Very Happy (a betting game), dunk machine, (and maybe some other things I'm not remembering at the moment).
The fair would be finalized with a masked ball (only NPCs), that I knew Felinaa was planning for some time now.

Originally my idea was to only promote activity, have the 5 chalenges and have a money prize for each one (50£, I thought at the time) - each Somerset's town would sponsor one - and it would have a common place with the usual things - music, food, drinks, ... People would RP, have a bit of a good time and hopefully more activities would come up.

As this grew to have (ideally) more and more prizes, the need for tickets started to come to mind. So, a idea to make people want to come and still do not take away the prizes (prizes bring more people than RP, I think) would be appreciated.

If I'd throw this today (in ideal circumstances) this is what it would be like:

There would be a common place where people would hang around, kind of a fair. There would be music, food and alcohol. In this ground there would be the grease pole (it's dice based), who would win would get a prize; the dunk machine, people would win the happiness of making someone soaked; the kissing booth, (I don't need to explain that); and the pooing caw game, where who wins takes the cow.

There would be the five contests, starting in different days:
- sword duels, it's dice based and it would be like a cup (playoffs);
- horse race, a single race (unless there would be lots of contestants) divided in two or three laps - this is dice based too;
- jousting, again done playoffs style and dice based;
- bow and arrow target shooting, where the target is divided in areas with different values, after 3 rounds the player with more points wins (dice based);
- pike throwing, is the obvious, the further the better (after 3 throws, the best is the one that counts).

(This is dice based because it's a RP event, and I think that to make it fun everybody should have equal chances to win, no matter how long they are playing.
In every game the contestant would sign himself up, the dice would be thrown by us, we'd show how that round will end and they have 24 hours to role play whatever they want before we get to the next round.)

After the fair being (almost) finished, the masked ball would start. At the end of the ball a man and a woman (like king and queen) would be elected, based on their disguises (avatar and signature) and overall performance at the ball.

Getting to the prizes, each town would pay the prize of one of the challenges, the £50, the person would need to go to that town to get it, and they'd get a medal too; for the grease pole, the winner would be awarded from the town (s)he is at with a small prize (maybe a random prize like either a bread, or a bag of wheat, even a meat, whichever surplus we have); for the pooing cow would be the value of a cow, as it is a betting game only a person can win; and the "king and queen" of the ball would win a "marvelous candlelit dinner" (a fish each, or a meat).

For those who are already thinking "All that money? Yeah, right!" I'll give the ideas I have to make it a bit less costly.

Each activity (other than the fair grounds and the ball) would cost a ticket. A ticket could be "purchased" in the market buying an especific town hall product (let's say, a bread for £11,01) or by working in the mines.
Now I have two doubts:
1 - a mines work day should represent one or two tickets?
2 - should a person have to give a ticket away for each activity or after having, let's say 3 or 5 tickets (depending wether the day of work represents one or two tickets) that person would have a "free pass" to every activity? (This would only let a person do any activity only once!)

In the end, hopefully, our people's moral would be a bit better, the activity would be stimulated and the work in the mines too.

Things already done:
- The planning of the main lines of the event;
- The medals;
- The dice based rules (jousting is not complete yet) (I'll post the rules in another post as I think they are not fundamental to the current one);
- Some of the graphic work needed;
- ...

Things yet to be done:
- Guarantee the founds (could be sponsored by THs, the county, maybe SAS and even some more experienced players willing to help);
- Advertise (posters in other county's inns);
- Finish everything a normal RP needs, the text and some images;
- ...

To finish, I have to remark that I'm having a great deal of support and help from Celdonea, Felinaa, RevanDenizen, Prophecy_girl, and some others.

Wow!! This sounds GReat!!!

It looks like you have put a lot of work into this and it sounds like a fun time.

Bridgewater supports this and I am willing to sponsor an event. I have prizes to donate to this cause.

I think the miner tickets is an excellent idea!

Celdonea starts to plan strategically now, rubbing her hands together, "I think I would like to sign up to get dunked! I have confidence that nobody could hit the target. The key is to get them all drunk, then their aim will be off. Hehehehe.
And cow-pooing, how interesting?!?!"

This is a a archery game

maybe add some rules regarding it:

1. You need to play the tournament
2. You need to take 2 screenshots, one showing your shots tally, and then one showing the final score. You need to post both together.

Would look So:

I Somerset Fun Fair Tally610

I Somerset Fun Fair Score610

Thanks for the link, Luja. This game was used in other events before, I think.

I don't like the idea of using flash games, though. The purpose of this even is to make people use the forum and have a good time in the role play. Flash games are just a way of making them go away... Even if they come back, where is the role play? Isn't it the whole point of RK?

But I thank you very much for showing your support and will to help. And, of course, I'm willing to hear people prove me wrong and actually use the game.

Your right,it would kill the RP.

About the dices,it would be great if the RK forum had a contest part where the dices work like here in the CoB.

Maybe we should suggest that heheh... Smile

Yes, that would be a very interesting addition to the forums. For now will have to use external ways to do it and post the results. But that's pretty easy.

Maybe pick a judge for each contest who will Roll the dices and if somebody doesnt RP his action then he is out or? Smile

Didnt see that in the rules.

No, you didn't. But that's a good idea.

The judges were my original idea. Removing the people who don't role play is a very good idea, and pretty fair.

Ooo,good that you reminded me,

I saw SAS mentioned in the donations part,the SAS lives on the inventory of the County so SAS and County the same i think.

And do i think what about the prizes as mayor of Chard?

Yes, Luja, are you willing to sponsor one of the major games with a prize. I have committed to hosting one of the games.

We need to hear from the other mayors now.

Zm, would you like me to send a mail to the other mayors and send them to this thread? I can do that.

Would be great if you did, Cel. I'd do it myself, of course, but I don't think I have any credibility before the other mayors. A more experienced player would probably be more effective.

For what you say, I admit there would be no problem for Chard to give the £50 prize and maybe a couple of items (the smaller prizes I talked about).

you have the support of the GC town hall, always enjoy a bitta RP
i will put forward some of Gcs finest fishes (for free) to benefit the event and anything else you may need to help the event

and you said
a bread for £11,01 or by working in the mines.
think we should use the mines for tickets, they should post the mine event as there ticket in there sig. or at "the door"
and working in the mines makes 17.50( for person) and a the bread will cost them 11p (or what ever), if you give ppl a option to make money and get in or spend money and get in, which do you think they would take, we want as many ppl as we can.

but we could do something else, like selling wood at 5p for the tickets( since i think the county would love to get rid of wood) and when the event is over the THs would buy there tickets back for 3 p, then it really old costs 2 p for ppl to enter, and will give the THs some $$ to cover some of the costs of the event.
this would also provide away for there to be proof of purchase, the THs could keep a list of ppl that have brought tickets and the we can cross check it will ppl that are at the party, you just post it "at the door" or in you sig.

and if you need some help with some graphics im always happy to help out. thats just my 2 cents

I thank you for finding a way to post so quickly. And I am glad to hear the full support from Gloucester's TH.

Yes, I agree that people should use the mines. But, if they rather pay for the tickets and work somewhere else (fields, university, travel), we can offer them that too. The use of bread seamed a bit more simple, and I'll explain:
- We have a bread, wheat and flour surplus that would be nice to get rid of (not saying that this would fix the problem, obviously);
- Everybody can use the bread;
- From above we can say that there is no need to buy it back (less work);
- 11,01-6(usual price)=£5 directly for the TH.

Now, we could make a bread worth 1 ticket and the mines 2.

About the graphics, I'll be contacting you for sure. Thanks.

indeed, bread would be easier to use, but still paying 11p for a ticket is still quite pricey, we could drop it to like 8p or some thing.

and what do we have any idea how to stop ppl who havent brought a ticket getting in?

Let's do some math...

Having bread at £11 and taking it's real price - £6 -, one would be paying £5 for the tickets.

In Bridgewater you can easily find a job for 19, even more. So working on the mines you "lose" £2. If you are a level 2 or 3, a day of work (excluding civil servents) would give you £22+, hence you'd lose £5+.

So, it might seem unfair, but really, and that's my oppinion, for a more experienced player, would be better to buy a bread for £8 than work in the mines. And we need to motivate/encourage people to go into our mines.

So, I guess, one day in the mines equals to a £11 bread that is equal to two tickets. (This is just me doing math, not a decision.)

About your second question, we can always find a big strong bouncer. Now seriously, your question is very good. Ideally I'd say people will put it on their signatures and their honesty will help us not having problems but, there are people that find changing their signature hard. So, we need another system.

What if we creat a thread called something like "Ticket line"? In that thread people would just go post their tickets. The organization would have a matrix file keeping track of the number of tickets "bought" by someone and would cross it with the number of activities that same person did that far. Maybe we could even mail people warning the end of their tickets.
