Article 1.1.1. : Any law proclaimed by the King of England applies to the Duchy of Somerset. i. The duchy laws prevail over national laws if they are in contradictory. In light of the King's recent edict that will require us to individually revise or repeal many of our laws and all the proposals we have at hand to revise or repeal many individual laws and the recommendation of the HOL panel of judges that the laws are flawed, in addition to the many complaints from citizens that the current legal corpus is confusing to read and hard to understand, in the best interests of the people of Somerset I propose we repeal the entire current legal corpus and make a decree to use the pre-existing laws we used when we split from wiltshire(the wiltshire laws) and then revise them to suit the current situation in Somerset.

I agree. I know the Wiltshire Legal Corpus, I helped to write it, it is a very good, well worded document!

| This is an incredibly radical proposed change. I will certainly need to read the laws of Wilshire more thoroughly before agreeing or disagreeing. Busily reading, Rebo | |

| I completely disagree. While i have not read all of that original set of laws, that which I have read has convinced me that we are better off using what we have, with, perhaps, amendments as needed.
The law cited by Allikath in her original posting is one that all counties have. When discussion of creation of a set of national laws (intended primarily for use by new counties, to protect them until they had councils available to draw up a new set) was brought up in the HoP, ALL county representatives decried the idea of a set of national laws overriding the legal corpuses designed by the local counties to suit the local county needs.
This is a can of worms that would take a LOT of time; do we really have the luxury of contemplating it?

| I honestly do not know either corpus well enough to give an educated opinion. But I cannot believe that months and months of councils in the past have failed to improve our corpus over an old version of another counties laws? Surely the councils of the past have been able to improve upon what Wiltshire had more than 6 months ago?
Let us fix the laws we have to. Lets roll up the sleeves and get to work.

| We clearly do need to make multiple changes to our laws following the recent edicts. I have looked at the Wiltshire laws, and agree that they are easier to understand than the Somerset ones, so I believe Allikath's suggestion has merit. We do need to come up with a new version though to take into account the special things in Somerset, such as the loan programme for example, so it will take a lot of work whichever codex we start from. We should get input from the House of Lords who in the past have criticised Somerset laws too, if we want to fix everything at once. I believe it needs fixing, and that having good and fair laws well understood by the people and acceptable to the King is not a luxury, but essential. I shall start work on it. | |
