| Sooooooo...... as the most dramatic member of our council, I thought we should do something thats....dramatic. Marshy-Warshy-Bo-Barshy was thinking, for some RP's in Chard... how about a carnival? it wouldn't just be a bunch of people sitting around drinking rum and talking about Teagan the lady-priest, but we could have things like art competitions, and Archery comps (using the archery game that the SAS uses). it would make our forums more lively and fun! my ideas so far: Art competition: someone (aka me) will make a cryptic phrase (I tried to make one up then but it just want working for me), and the Artists will have say 24-48 hours to create a masterpiece to show to a board of judges. It could be a picture, song, dance, music, anything that can be judged! Archery Competition: That Archery comp the SAS used in the may day games, and mike is too good so he's no allowed to enter really not too much to talk about Tug-o-war: maybe....but its used a lot so maybe something a little different... Relay races: People are given a while to sign up to the race, then are put in even(ish) teams. it works generally in the same way as tug-o-war, except ever team member has to pull once, and in the order it is given (much like running in order in a real relay) Treasure hunt: A few people know the capture the criminal/capture the flag SAS game? Well, same principal, 'cept this time instead of flags/criminals, its prizes. And they could be from differing value, say, 2 pounds too....something cool, like a fish...or something else that escapes me right now food tent: for general eating and RPing aaaaaaaaand thats all I got for now! Help me come up with more! Oh yeah, try to keep this as quiet as possible, don't talk about it outside the council. Then on the day we decide to hold the carnival, we spring it on them all at once. Suprise! |

| Those are some absolutely amazing ideas, Lady M! If we get all the details in place [like detailed instructions on how to play each game prepared in advance and ready to post,] then announce it say a week before it actually begins, that will give us time to stir up interest and get the word out. Generating a little "buzz" and building excitement, and letting the participants begin to get ready for the contests. I am pretty tight with the Chard Pulp assisant editor, so I am sure I can promote the festivities there. It would benefit both the carnival and the paper. Great idea, Marshy ma'am! Oh, and congrats on your nomination to recieve a noble title! Atri | |

| (yes I actually just asked her about taking that position hee hee, better then boring deputy mayor) And you have to stay up to date in the Colledge of Heraldry forum to see all these noble things, but it normally puts me to sleep there.
Anyway good ideas Marshy (Even though we talked about most of em earlier) Keep it up! (Don't disappear on usn now!) |

| yes! I am now officially Lady Marshmellow, Baroness of Somerton! *curtsies* does anyone have any ideas for the carnival thinger? for a fleeting moment I thought about a kissing booth (as it is for charity and all), but then thought the mods may not like that idea. Also, there is the council election thingers coming up, so should it be held before/during/after that? It may calm any tension formed by the elections, or provide more area for people to feud... opinions people! |

| If you can have it ready before, then go with before I'd say, and yeah, don't say anything remotely "flaming" or "inappropriate" or Chard will be banned for a month! |

Wise advice sir. Although I would be inclined to think *after* the elections would be better. Not sure why though, so don't put much stock in that opinion. As for ideas, Lady M [curtsies to the noble Marshy] it sounds like you already have more than enough good ones in your orignal post. Just a matter of implementing them. I probably cant be much help with that, since I dont know how those forum games work. It stands to reason that many [or even most] folks won't know either. So, we will need a detailed set of instructions or rules for each event or game posted at the begining of each game thread. These can easily be prepared in advance and ready to copy/paste into each topic once the carnival begins. I think we should announce the carnival with teasers about events about one week in advance. Also, I think a post [separate thread] to offically kick off the carnival, an opening ceremony if you will, should have hotlinks to all the different game threads, to serve as a "directory" for attendees and participants. The hotlinks post could either immediately follow the offical kickoff of events, or be edited into the first post after all the game threads were opened and links could be obtained [but if edited then only person making the post could do that.] We would need to know who was going to operate or begin each of the games, and make sure they know and are ready at kick off. Again, I dont know diddley about how any of these games work, but I will volunteer to run one of them if someone can tell me how it works and /or link me to a good example of one. you will have to be very specific, because I am a computer dunce. I require click by click instructions. Can Barerose run the archery comp? Just thinking out loud here, so if its just noise, tune me out. Also, are we inviting our neighbors from BW and the like to attend? I would be inclined to say yes. Since a) no way to stop them posting and b) the more the merrier I say. Let's show them some good old fashioned Chardian hospitality. Be good for inter-duchy relations. Atri edit: I would suggest avoiding the kissng booth idea, recipe for trouble.

| Hmm, how about a dunking booth? I'm sure folks would love the chance to dunk the mayor of Chard, maybe the LT. of SAS or that bartender at the Green Bush Inn, perhaps?
(A dunk tank, also known as a dunking booth or dunking machine, is an attraction mainly used in funfairs, fundraisers, and personal parties. Basically, a dunk tank consists of a large tank of water, over which a seat is suspended. By striking a target, the seat will tip or fall into the tank of water, thus "dunking" whoever is sitting on the seat.)

| I am in BW right now, and speaking with a great citizen, Catullus (who's rl finance may be moving to Chard, but I digress). He suggested an event for our festival- log rolling! I don't see why our woodcutters wouldn't be able to cut a few extra trunks for some good log rolling fun.
And while we are at it, why not lumber jacking event, or a log stand, or other woody events.

| These are all great ideas, and they sound like fun.
I particularly like the idea of having lumberjack type events.
I'm still a little unclear on how exactly we translate these into forum games though. What are the rules, and how is the winner determined? If its *purely* roleplay, then whats to stop the last guy who posts saying "LordInternetToughGuy steps confidently to the line and with a mighty heave, sends the caber flying through the air twice as far as the last guy." ?
someone here mentined the archery comp in the mayday thread, which was before my time, but i am going to go track that thread down and see if I can get a feel for how it works.
This should be fun. The key to sucess here will be effective promotion and marketing to ensure a good turn out. thats my biggest concern. I always doubted James Earl Jones when he told Kevin Costner "If you build it, they will come."

BW has some excellent role players and their participation will be a great asset. I am still unclear on the details of the "games." I read the entirety of the mayday thread last night, and I didn't learn anything specific. I saw no info on the archery comp. Was that in an SAS forum? Also, are we coordinating with the taverns on this? Would be nice if we could simultaneously include role-play in the taverns during one of the festival days. A weekend, naturally. - Rebo wrote:

| Here is the archery game from the May Day Games,
http://ntco.free.fr/81.swf
and another I use in my training of the Bowman
http://www.realtree.com/redirect.php?ITEM=game_bowhunter
I have a few ideas for a RP game as well but will refine it a bit more before I purpose it. As for inviting BW, I say invite all of England to Chard to show to all of our countrymen the hospitality that makes Chard proud. LOL we could call it "The Woodchuck Festival", or something to the effect.
I don't know as of yet but love the sounds of it all, and look forward to the grand event indeed.

| I suppose....more detailed rules type thingers: Archery. Here's the link for the game: http://ntco.free.fr/81.swf Players must complete a round of Tournament Archery. You need to take 2 screenshots, one showing your shots tally, and then one showing the final score. You need to post both together. You can make as many entries as you like, but you can only win one place. The competition will last a week from ___'s reset, so good luck! Tug-o-War. Players sign up, and where there are enough people, they are assigned teams. The separate teams are then told who they are versing, and the games begin! Players have to post them 'tugging' the rope to have their go count. The first team to have all their members pull the rope first wins, and moves on to the grand final. Relay Race. This is much the same as tug-o-war, but a little different. Players who Sign up are assigned teams, and who they are versing. They are then given the order in which they MUST post (otherwise their post wont count). First team to cross the finish line in the correct order wins, and may move onto a grand final if there are enough players Pouncing booths. lucky guys and gals of Chard sign up to get a detailed pounce from one of the lovely lasses or lads who chose to do some pouncing....remember! Censors are watching, so nothing explicit *looks at a few certain people* Art competition. One of the judges (3 people from the town council) will post a poem, or a saying, or something similar. Artisans will then have 48 hours to create a masterpiece to match the post. It can be a drawing, painiting, song, dance, anything artistic (that can be shown on the forums) to interpret the judges post. for the words I was thinking something like 'If a tree falls in the forest and no ones around, does it make a sound?' or something similar. Things I need help with: - log rolling competition. I want to base it off the horse racing from the SAS games (found here: https://somerset.rpg-board.net/Somerset-Armed-Service-SAS-c19/Headquarter-c20/SAS-Competitions-f91/SAS-Horse-Racing-t412-0.htm) but I dont know how to change it to make it more....loggy. also, we need something that will take a week...maybe less. - coming up with 'sayings' for the art competition - volunteers! - judges for the art comp - pouncers for the booths - probably more stuff ... |

I better stay clear of this one. I'm not known for my self-restraint. - LadyMarshmellow wrote:

I might like to enter this one myself [if council members are permitted to participate] so I couldn't be a judge. - LadyMarshmellow wrote:

Yes, Publicity will be needed, and enough lead time to get the word out. That should ensure maximum participation. I can help here. Being a blabber mouth is one thing I'm good at. What I need is: - enough advance notice to get the word out [I prefer two weeks, but can get by with less if I must] - the dates the festival will run - the NAME of this event. What are we calling it? Something wood related I hope.Great job Lady M! You're amazing. Atri

| Crep sir,
What exactly is that thing?
Are the gray "lanes" the path of travel for the "runners?" If so, then the staggered starting positions are reversed. As it is, the inside lane clearly has a decidedly shorter distance to travel than the poor girl in the outside lane.

But I'm not sure if it's entirely appropriate. [It has a few mild profanities]
