Christmas celebrations ~ ideas - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Christmas celebrations ~ ideas   Christmas celebrations ~ ideas - Page 2 Icon_minitimeMon Nov 30, 2009 5:54 am

Hello everyone, I hope no one minds me poking my head in here, but I've been thinking about a couple of things as they relate to various celebrations and such ...

BW is planning a holiday celebration as is Chard (You may have seen BW's poster that Cindy put up and Bones is pretty up to speed on what is going on in Chard). Now I will freely admit that I don't have time to devote to another group at the moment but that said, all of us cannibalizing each other is nuts. Three different celebrations are likely to result in one or more being poorly attended, which makes the people who put them together not want to waste their time. I think we can all agree this bad.

So I'd like to propose going forward that someone from the committee contact the Mayor of each town during the initial planning stages to see if they wish to participate. If the Mayor says yes, then from an RP standpoint their town gets to host an event. For example, Chard will be bringing back Dunk the Mayor for the last 2 weeks of my term (13 Dec-26 Dec). I've already spent the communication point to put it on the IG Calendar. But the thread could be placed in Somerset Inn and willing Councilors could be added without much issue. Tickets might be a bit more problematic in this case, but it could be done.

Now if the Mayor says no, their town doesn't get to RP host the event ... some will care and some won't, but I think once the public sees that all these other towns are hosting, that they'll wonder why theirs isn't.

In the end, its as much about fun for the people planning it as it is for the people participating in it. And having hard work be ignored ... not so much fun ... especially when we can work together so that the effort isn't wasted.

Thanks for reading and I'll be checking in on this from time to time.

I am afraid I do not see it as cannibalizing, Somerset Inn and the separate halls are just that separate. An I feel that's a good thing...because while we can have the mayors host an event in the Inn it does nothing for the activity of the halls. For the halls to be active they require their own activities and this is currently up to people in the town councils.

An as an active member of Chard...if I was in Chard I would go to both the hall activities and the Inn ones and if I happened to be in Bridgewater then I would attend those.

Personally I like to see that the separate halls are trying to get people active as that is what is needed. Will having all the activities taking place in Somerset help get the citizens more active...It might but then you might find the halls die. An new citizens will most likely start out posting in the halls as its not quite as scary as the big inn. The main thing we need to do is get more newbies posting and joining in...how? *shrugs*

Having said all that, if people want we can try it out for the new year.

I had a letter from Mozzie. We shouldn't refer to it as "Christmas" because that's an OOC real life religious celebration. It needs to be "Christosmas". Oops!

I've changed the title of the announcement thread, and also edited the poster to conform.

And when we do the rest of the events, we need to remember to refer to it as "Christosmas"...!

I don't see why not...as long as you have someone to post the events and run them. Also depends on what you are planning to host as time is always an issue...i.e. things like the werewolves game and ball with a difference take time as you have to mail people etc though this can be reduced with more than one person doing the mailing.

I just like to have a competition between towns Smile Maybe one town host an event (any) and at the end of the week people in the Inn vote to support it. Then the next week a different town host it.

The SAS people can take lead in bringing activity back to the citizens in this way and we can round off a difficult year and welcome a new one at the same time.

Well, according to the programme, we should have done the snowman build and snowball fight last week.

And today we are supposed to be starting the tree dressing. Then in three days should be carol singing and ice skating, and then on the 20th is the Christmas present hunt.

Are we still doing these? Is anyone able to start off the tree dressing?

Sorry everyone, time just slipped by.

I could start a Christosmas in the Park thread now, if you'd like - would need everybody to join in to encourage everyone else, though! I thought we could combine lots of the activities for over the remaining days.

Quote :
Somerset Christosmas in the Park

You are invited to join the Active Somerset Committee to celebrate Christosmas here in the County's park.

There are several opportunities to join in the holiday festivities. The snow has been steadily falling over the past few days. Now, there is a nice, fluffy layer of snow everywhere - perfect for having snowball fights, building snowmen, etc. To one side is a fire, burning brightly; providing a haven from the cold and a chance to get warm in between snow activities.

Everyone welcome - Somerset citizens and visitors alike!

Snowman build

You can role play creating a snow figure and, if you wish, may post a picture of a snow creation.

Snowball fight

Role-playing snowball fights with each other.

Ice skating

The large pond in the centre of the Inn has frozen over and is ideal for ice-skating. Put on your skates and join us - beginners and experts, all welcome!

Christosmas Tree Dressing

A heavy cart arrives in the centre of the Inn. A group of men proceed to unload a big tree from the back of the cart and drag it to a nearby area. They haul it upright, shoving it this way and that to make sure it is as even as they can make it before anchoring it safely.

The Somerset activity committee invite you to add your decoration to dress the tree for the holiday celebrations.

If you would like to add a decoration, please post a screenshot here, and include your name and town. Ideally, of course, role-play making your addition to the tree.

[OOC please remember the forum rule that images must be no larger than 700 x 700 pixels.
And snowman creations should remain more or less in the time period, eg no cars etc.]

Our apologies for not starting the events at the times advertised - things rather overtook us all.

What do you think? Worth doing? Happy to join in? Or too late?

I think it's worth doing. Some of us will have some fun with it, and others may be able to join in as well. Especially with things like the snowball fight. Smile I didn't read the whole thing closely - make sure that you are always using "Christosmas". Smile

Hi Taurjack

Well, that was all for last Christmas - some of it happened, some didn't. Might be worth starting to think about this year's seasonal celebrations though.

However, this committee got moved to the main IG forum 2. The moderator there is the Duke, so you can mail him to grant you access. (Only problem is that now Cara is dead, unless she comes back, we have nobody to lead.)
